Speech, Language and Hearing Services
The following services are provided by the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLP is at Cummings on Monday, Thursday and Friday all day; and Tuesday and Wednesday in the afternoons.
· Hearing screenings are completed for all students who are referred for special education evaluation, students suspected of hearing loss and all kindergarten students in the fall of the school year. Parents are notified if a hearing loss exists.
· Screening, assessment and intervention services are provided for students who are identified as having a communication disorder. This means the impairment of articulation, voice, fluency and/or oral language that adversely affects the educational performance of the student. Intervention services are accomplished through the development of an individual education program (IEP).
· Consultation and referrals for parents and staff who seek information to improve hearing, speech and language development for children are offered.
Children under five can have their communication skills evaluated through the Willamette Education Service District. They provide intervention services for children identified as having a communication disorder. Their website is www.wesd.org, click here to go to the website.
